David Brennan was born and raised in Castlebar. A qualified accountant, he took over the family business Castle Bookshop in 2012, opening the mainstreet branch of the shop which has become a literary hub in the town, with a café, craft section, and the best of both classics and contemporary literature available to visitors. Brennan founded Mayo Books Press in 2020 with the desire to promote the swathes of world-class writing coming out of his home county. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, cycling, and hiking. He lives in Castlebar with his wife and three children.

Edwin McGreal is a journalist, author and editor based on Achill Island and a native of Breaffy, Castlebar. He has written for local and national newspapers for 25 years and released his first book, 'Our Finest Hour – Mayo GAA clubs reflect on their glory days' last year. He also pens a weekly opinion column in the Western People.

Consulting editor, creative nonfiction and poetry

Alice Kinsella is a writer and editor. Her books include Milk (Picador, ‘23) and Wake of the Whale (Mayo Books, ‘24). She edited Empty House: poetry and prose on the Climate Crisis (Doire, ‘21). She holds a B.A. in English Literature and Philosophy from TCD and an MA in Writing from UoG. An Arts Council of Ireland Next Generation Artist, she has worked as a freelance editor and creative writing teacher for over a decade. She’s interested in books of poetry, creative nonfiction, and books that push the boundaries of traditional literary forms. She lives in Mayo with her family.

Design Partner

Siobhan Foody. With Mayo Books Press since day one, Siobhan first got ink in her blood during two weeks of work experience at a newspaper at the age of 15. That fortnight turned into 15 years with the publishing group, where she trained as a subeditor, won multiple European Newspaper Design Awards for Excellence, and took on roles in design, marketing, and production management. In 2013, Siobhan launched her own business in Castlebar, providing creative consultancy and design services to a loyal client base both locally and internationally. To date, she has designed more than 40 books across a wide range of genres. She is also a proud member of the Wild Atlantic Words literary festival committee.
